Nationals Call Up Andres Chaparro For Major League Debut
The Nationals will select the contract of Chaparro from Triple-A prior to their next game in Baltimore, according to Andrew Golden of The Washington Post. Washington has space on their 40-man roster, so they will make a move on their 26-man roster to find room for the newly called-up third baseman.
The Nationals’ callup of Chaparro is the second MLB promotion the team has made within the past few days. Recently, Washington infielder Jose Tena, who was also acquired at the trade deadline, made his Nationals debut and had a walk-off hit against the Los Angeles Angels.
Chaparro had been on a roll for Triple-A Rochester as he had a home run in four straight games. While playing for two Triple-A teams season, the 25-year-old infielder has batted .328 for 23 home runs, 85 RBI, and three stolen bases with an OPS of .977. Chaparro should continue to keep up the impressive stats in the big leagues.
Chaparro signed with the New York Yankees as an international free agent in July 2015. He bounced around the team’s farm system from 2016 to 2023. He then signed a minor league contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks in November 2023. Slashing .332/.403/.564 with 19 home runs and 75 RBI in 95 games for Triple-A Reno.
Andrés Chaparro gets the call!
Chaparro has been lighting up AAA this season, launching 23 HR and posting a 141 wRC+ through 457 PA.
He is exhibiting great power metrics and aggression with average contact metrics. He is prone to chasing but makes up for it with a high Z-Swing% https://t.co/oJDkHJSqZo pic.twitter.com/hX0YkSDyIf
