As first baseman fly off the board, the Nationals get their guy
The Washington Nationals have their first baseman. The team is finalizing a trade with the Texas Rangers to acquire Nathaniel Lowe. Reliever Robert Garcia will be headed to Texas in the trade.
The Virginia native has been one of the most consistent first baseman in the league over the past few seasons. Lowe has been a consistently productive hitter over the past few seasons, while being a plus defender at first base.
While Lowe has not been able to replicate his monster 2022, where he hit .302 with 27 home runs and an .850 OPS, he has been consistently productive. Last season, Lowe hit 16 home runs to go with a .765 OPS and a .265 batting average. These numbers, along with gold glove level defense are an upgrade on the Nationals current options. He also has shown the ability to be even more productive than he was last season.
Lowe is estimated to make 10.7 million dollars this season, and has another year of team control after this year. Unlike Josh Naylor, Lowe is not a rental. He also brings the elite defense that the Nationals would have gotten from Christian Walker. Lowe is not the splashiest option, but he checks a lot of boxes.
The Nationals still need to make more additions, but Lowe is a good addition who will help the team.
