An 18-year-old was arrested Sunday and charged with murder in connection to the double shooting near The Mall in Columbia on Saturday, according to a news release from the Howard County Police.
Police said Emmetson Zeah, of Columbia, was arrested overnight and charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and other related charges for the shooting that killed a 16-year-old and left a 15-year-old in critical condition.
Police said they recovered from Zeah’s home a gun and the clothing he allegedly wore during the shooting, according to the release. Police said detectives believe the shooting was targeted, but a motive remains unclear.
Around 5:52 p.m. Saturday, police responded to the parking lot and bus loop area outside of a Lidl grocery store in the 10300 block of Little Patuxent Parkway for the report of shots fired.
Upon arrival, officers located two victims with gunshot wounds. Michael Robertson, 16, of Columbia, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police, and the 15-year-old, also of Columbia, was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he remains in critical condition, police said.
Zeah is being held without bail at the Howard County Detention Center, the release says.
In July, a 17-year-old, Angelo Little, of Columbia, was killed in the mall. An 18-year-old is still wanted for first-degree murder and related charges in that case.
