The AAA Norfolk Tides will host their home opener starting on Friday, March 28, 2025 at 6:35 pm against the Durham Bulls.
The starting pitcher for the Tides will be Thaddeus Ward, a 5th round pick by the Boston Red Sox in the 2018 draft. In the 2024 season, Ward was 8-6 with a 5.34 ERA in 28 games. He pitched 119.2 innings with 107 strikeouts. Ian Seymour, a 2nd round pick by the Tampa Bay Rays will pitch for the Bulls. Last year, he pitched in 27 games, resulting in a 9-4 record with an ERA of 2.35.
Among the notable players who did not make the Orioles’ Opening Day roster and will play for the Tides tonight is Coby Mayo, who expressed his frustration about not making the team and hopes to get back to Baltimore as soon as possible. Mayo played 17 Spring Training games with the Orioles earlier this year, batting .190. Catcher Samuel Basallo is another top prospect who didn’t make the cut and is expected to play with the Tides tonight. Basallo hit .226 in his 16 Spring Training games but likely needs more experience at the AAA level before being brought up to the majors.
The Tides will host Durham for three games this weekend before being away versus the Charlotte Knights for a 6 game series. It should be a great start to a promising season.
