The AA Bowie Baysox of the Baltimore Orioles powered through on Tuesday night for a 17-1 win over the Akron RubberDucks. Bowie set the tone in this opening game against the Guardians AA affiliate with 13 hits, three of which were home runs.
This game also served as a rehabilitation assignment for Orioles outfielder Austin Hays, who ended his night going 2-for-3 with a walk. Hays would open the scoring for the Baysox in the bottom of the first, roping a two-run home run over the left field wall.
Bowie’s center fielder, Jud Fabian, would prove himself as the top performer of the night. He went 4-for-5 with a walk and recorded a multi-home run game for a total of five RBIs.
On the other side of the game, pitching was also impressive for the Baysox. Starting pitcher Alex Pham recorded the win with one earned run over five innings pitched.
The Baysox will be back on Wednesday to try and continue the momentum in game two of six against the RubberDucks.
