Pitcher Brandon Young started for the AAA Norfolk Tides on May 29th after being called up the day prior. This was the right-hander’s first AAA start after a few seasons with the Bowie Baysox.
Young allowed 3 hits, 3 walks, and struck out 6. The Gwinnett Stripers scored two during his four innings pitched. The Tides scored 2 overall. Daniel Johnson hit a sacrifice fly in the first inning, scoring Jackson Holliday, and Billy Cook scored on a throwing error by Stripers catcher Sebastián Rivero.
However, the Tides did not back up their new pitcher, allowing three more runs after Young’s start. Jonathan Heasley relieved Young, pitching three innings and allowing four hits and no runs. Kade Strowd, who received the loss for the day, allowed four hits, three runs, and striking out one. Bryan Baker ended the game, pitching one inning and allowing 0 hits and 0 runs. The Tides went 0-5 with runners in scoring position, severely limiting their ability to battle against the Stripers, and resulting in a 5-2 loss.
The Tides play again at home on May 30th versus the Stripers for their Business Special Matinee at 12:05 pm EDT.
