The Baltimore Orioles beat the Boston Red Sox 9-4 in 10 innings on Thursday night. With the win the Birds swept the Red Sox in Fenway Park for the first time since 2021. The Orioles hit four homeruns in the win and none were bigger than the two that came off the bat of Colton Cowser.
Cowser went 3 for 5 with a double, 2 homeruns, 2 runs scored and 4 RBI. His fifth inning homerun, which was his first MLB career homer, not only cleared the Green Monster, it put the Orioles on the board. His second homerun came on a 3-0 count in the tenth inning and at 438 ft. is the longest Oriole homerun to date.
Anthony Santander went 1 for 4 with a homerun, 1 run scored and 2 RBI. Santander took advantage of two Boston miscues to homer past the Pesky pole. If Boston’s David Hamilton doesn’t miss touching second on a double play, Santander doesn’t even bat in the inning. Santander’s homerun was a two run shot due to the fact that Jackson Holliday (0 for 4, 2 R) reached on an error and then was safe at second on the missed put out.
Gunnar Henderson went 1 for 5 with a homerun, 1 run scored and 2 RBI. His tenth inning homerun put the Birds in the lead.
Ryan Mountcastle and Ryan O’Hearn both went 1 for 4 with a run scored and a walk.
Starting pitcher Grayson Rodriguez allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, walked 2 and struck out 5 over 5.2 innings.
Jacob Webb struck out 1 in 1.1 innings of relief.
The winning pitcher was Craig Kimbrel (2-0) who struck out 1 pitching the ninth inning.
