On a sunny Easter Sunday the Baltimore Orioles fell to the Los Angeles Angels by a score of 4-1. Despite a third consecutive quality start by an Oriole hurler, there was not enough offense to overcome a 4-0 deficit after an inning and a half.
Tyler Wells (0-1) started the game and was down 2-0 after facing four Angels batters on a Taylor Ward two-run homerun. The Angels scored two more runs in the second inning, one which was unearned due to a James McCann (1 for 3) throwing error on a pick-off throw to third base in an attempt to catch Logan O’Hoppe straying too far off the base. Wells did recoverto retire the side in order in the third, fourth and fifth innings, capped off by striking out the side in the sixth. He was tagged with the loss and finished the day with 4 runs, 3 earned, allowed on 5 hits (1 HR) with 7 strikeouts.
Once again, the bullpen trio of Dillon Tate (1.0 IP, HBP), Jacob Webb (1.0 IP, BB) and Yennier Cano (1.0 IP, H, K) did its job but on the flip side, Baltimore batters managed just three hits in total.
Ryan Mountcastle went 1 for 4.
Jorge Mateo went 1 for 2.
Jordan Westburg went 0 for 2 with a walk and a RBI.
