The Baltimore Orioles shutout the Kansas City Royals 5-0 on Sunday to take the series. Next up, the Angels in Anaheim, California. A quality start by Cole Irvin (1-1) and back to back homeruns in the third inning by Colton Cowser (1 for 3, HR, R, RBI, BB) and Jordan Westburg (2 for 3, 3B, HR, R, 2 RBI, BB) collectively were the impetus for Sunday’s win.
Irvin gave the Birds his longest outing to date, allowing 4 hits with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts over 6.2 innings. The effort was good enough to record Irvin’s first win of the season.
Not quite to the degree of “full pack” Don Stanhouse, the bullpen came on again and made it interesting by throwing balls that missed the strike zone. Jacob Webb (0.2 IP, BB, K) threw 19 pitches (10 strikes) to three batters and Danny Coulombe (0.2 IP, H, 2 K) threw 16 pitches (11 strikes) to his three batters.
Despite issuing a two out walk, Dillon Tate (1.0 IP, BB) got through the ninth. It just seems that lately the bullpen makes the games interesting.
Gunnar Henderson went 1 for 5 with a double and a run scored.
Ryan Mountcastle went 2 for 4 with a double, a run scored and 2 RBI.
Cedric Mullins went 2 for 4 with a stolen base.
Anthony Santander (1 for 5, 3B, R) tripled with one out in the sixth inning to get the ball rolling for 2 Baltimore runs, extending the lead to 4-0.
Pinch hitter Ramon Urias (1 for 1, RBI) knocked in Henderson in the ninth for the fifth and final run.
