In which we wait for the Orioles to begin making moves
Happy Friday, Camden Chatters! Another weekend of the offseason approaches and still the Orioles haven’t made any big moves. We did get a tidbit from Jon Heyman yesterday that the Orioles are one of the main teams in the mix to sign Corbin Burnes. That sure would swing things in the Orioles favor. Something tells me the Orioles won’t end up being the winning team, but that could just be my years of Orioles fandom.
One pitcher the Orioles won’t sign for sure is Luis Severino, who agreed to a three-year, $67M deal with the Athletics. If that seems to you like a crazy contract for a team that will be playing its games next year in a minor-league ballpark, you’re not the only one. It’s hard to imagine why any player would want to go to the A’s in their current situation. But money talks and Severino listened. He had a decent 2024 but has a spotty history. He’s not a pitcher I would have wanted on the Orioles.
Next week could be when we see something happen for the Orioles as the winter meetings begin on Monday. A few deals usually happen for baseball during the meetings, so why not? Maybe the Orioles will spend some money on a pitcher next week. Or an outfielder. Or a backup catcher? I’m not picky. Just do something!

Birthdays and History
Is today your birthday? Happy birthday! You have three Orioles birthday buddies. Six-year Oriole Larry Sheets turns 65 years old today. Sheets played for the Orioles from 1984-89 with his best year coming in 1987. Sheets hit .316/.358/.563 with 31 homers that year. He is the father of current major leaguer Gavin Sheets.
Also born on this day are Mike Parrott (70), who pitched in three games for the Orioles in 1977 and Jeff Schneider (72), who got into 11 games in 1981.
On this day in 1954, the Orioles and White Sox completed a seven-player trade with Matt Batts, Fred Marsh, Don Johnson, and Don Ferrarese.
In 2010, the Orioles traded for Mark Reynolds. They sent Kam Mickolio and David Hernandez to Arizona as the return. Reynolds was an Oriole for just two years but had a very memorable role on the 2012 team.
