The Baltimore Orioles are off to a blistering start in 2024. The O’s sit atop of the AL East with a 14-7 record and are fresh off of a series win in Kansas City. The young stars have been getting it done this season, a common theme the past couple of years. We saw Colton Cowser win AL Player of the Week last week, and his teammate now joins him.
Baltimore went 5-1 last week with a sweep over the Minnesota Twins and a series win against the Kansas City Royals. There was lots of offensive firepower to go around, but the star of the show was Jordan Westburg. Westburg had five extra base hits, eight RBIs and an OPS of 1.413 in those six games.
Westburg opened the week with a 3-4 day and two RBIs against the Twins on Jackie Robinson Day. He followed up the hot start by going 6-11 in the Twins series. The patented Orioles offense finally emerged in that series, and Westburg was the frontrunner. He had an off start to the Royals series but followed it up with a two hit, two RBI night in game two. Westburg capped off a strong series with a 433′ blast to center field on Sunday afternoon, propelling the Birds to a 5-0 victory.
One of the many special things about this group is that they can beat you in many ways. The pitching can shut any team down with Corbin Burnes and Grayson Rodriguez, but they can also get into an offensive shootout. Baltimore can hit one through nine, and there’s no weakness in any bat. Birdland should expect many more player of the week awards from multiple different players.
