It’ll be the Dodgers vs the Yankees just like everyone wanted
Happy Monday, Camden Chatters. The World Series is set. After the Yankees clinched their spot on Saturday night, the Dodgers did the same last night with a win over the Mets. We won’t get a Subway Series but we will get a matchup of two of the biggest market teams in the sport. East coast vs West coast.
I feel an affinity for the 2024 Mets and would have liked to see them advance. However, I also think that the Dodgers have a better chance to defeat the Yankees and at this point, that’s what it’s all about.
Both teams will have the chance to rest and reset as game one of the World Series doesn’t begin until Friday. Why are there so many games off? Even if the ALCS had gone seven games, it would have ended on Tuesday. As someone who has had baseball on tv in my house every day for the last seven months, a four-day layoff seems unacceptable.
If you can separate yourself from the annoyingness of the Dodgers and Yankees facing off in the World Series, there will probably be a lot of good baseball next week. The playoffs so far this year have been chock full of excitement and there is no reason to think it’ll stop now. As an impartial observer for most of these games, I have been able to enjoy the baseball without the stress.
Of course, the idea of being an impartial observer does not apply to any game that is played by the Yankees. As much as I preferred almost any NL team make it to the World Series other than the Dodgers, I am now a Dodgers fan through the end of the season. Shohei Ohtani is great. Mookie Betts is easy to root for. But it’s more about rooting against a certain team than rooting for another.
I know you get it, fellow Orioles fan.

The Most Likely Trade For All 30 MLB Teams in 2024-25 Offseason | Bleacher Report
Most likely according to whom? Anyway this article says that the Orioles are likely to trade Ryan Mountcastle. I don’t know about that, but I do think first base is an upgradable position for sure.
Birthdays and History
Is today your birthday? Happy birthday! You have two Orioles birthday buddies. Valmy Thomas (b. 1925, d. 2010) played in eight games for the 1960 Orioles as part of a 252-game career. Today’s second birthday buddy, Matt Krook, turns 30 today. Krook pitched in one inning for the 2024 Orioles on June 30th. He gave up a three-run homer to Wyatt Langford in an 11-2 loss to the Rangers.
There is no Orioles history on this date, so here are some other world events that happened on this date:
- In 1879, Thomas Edison applied for a patent for his incandescent light bulb.
- In 1940, For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway was published.
- In 1989, a Boeing 727 crash in Honduras killed 131 people. The plane crashed as it was attempting to land at the airport.
- And in 2021, actor Alec Baldwin shot a prop gun that was, for some reason, loaded with live ammunition. Director of Photography Halyna Hutchins was killed as a result.
