The AAA Norfolk Tides won their fifth game in a row on May 1st, after struggling throughout April. The Tides went 11-14 compared to a 19-7 record in 2023. The Tides went through a 10-game losing streak in the middle of April, but were able to battle back to end the month with a winning streak, bringing their current record to almost .500, at 14-15.
On May 1st, they beat the Nashville Sounds 7-3, starting off the month in a promising way. Outfielder Kyle Stowers has hit home runs in back-to-back games, and third baseman Coby Mayo has hit home runs in three straight games. Mayo has had 6 RBIs during this streak, while Stowers has had 4. Mayo and Stowers continue to be strong parts of the team and two of the main reasons for their success the past week.
Starting pitcher Cade Povich provided a strong outing in their fifth-straight win, striking out six and allowing one run in six innings. He currently has a 1.11 ERA and his opponents are hitting just .139 against him. Among other notable pitchers during this win streak is John Means, who pitched 7 innings on April 28th, striking out 8 and allowing one hit during his rehab start. The Tides ended up winning the April 28th game 2-0 thanks to Means’ spectacular pitching.
The Tides are on a 2-week road trip and will try to win their sixth in a row tonight against the Sounds. Justin Armbruester will start for the Tides at 7:35 pm EST.
