The Baltimore Orioles announced today that they have acquired two players from the Milwaukee Brewers. The team acquired RHP Thyago Vieira and minor-league RHP Aneuris Rodriguez from Milwaukee. Baltimore sends minor league pitcher Garrett Stallings in return. Vieira has yet to report, while Rodriguez was assigned to the Florida Complex League Orioles.
Vieira has one save and a 5.64 ERA in 16 games with Milwaukee this season. The 16 appearances are tied for the most in his career, which he also did with the Chicago White Sox in 2018. Thyago has appeared in 41 games in his career with the Brewers, White Sox, and Seattle Mariners since making his debut in 2017. He’s one of five Brazilian players to play in an MLB game and will be the first for the Orioles. The Mariners signed him as an International Free Agent on September 21, 2010, out of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Rodriguez has made three appearances for the Arizona Complex League Brewers this season. The 19-year-old has a 3.68 ERA with 15 strikeouts. 2024 is his first-year pitching in the US after spending his first two professional years in the Dominican Summer League. Milwaukee signed him as an International Free Agent on March 22, 2022, out of San Juan De La Maguana, Dominican Republic.
The Orioles invited Stallings as a non-roster invitee to MLB Spring Training in 2024. He’s spent the entire year with AAA Norfolk, where he has a record of 0-1 with a 5.67 ERA with 25 strikeouts in 11 games. The O’s acquired him from the Los Angeles Angels for infielder Jose Iglesias on December 2, 2020. The Angels selected him in the fifth round of the 2019 draft out of the University of Tennessee. The Orioles 40-man roster currently has 40 players.
