After spending the first few weeks of the 2024 season with AA Bowie, Orioles prospect Billy Cook got the call-up to AAA Norfolk early on Thursday. Cook is among the Orioles’ top 30 prospects of 2024 and represented an important piece of the Baysox roster for the past two seasons.
Cook was the 287th overall in the 2021 MLB draft, as the Orioles claimed him in the tenth round out of Pepperdine University. After working through the lower A levels, he played the entire 2023 season with the Bowie Baysox, finishing with a .251 batting average. Cook also recorded a historic 20/20 season with the Baysox in 2023, becoming the second player in franchise history to record 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in one season.
Bowie’s offense has been unpredictable so far this season, but when they are producing, Cook is usually always a part of it. In the first weeks of the MiLB season, Cook is slashing a fair .286 average with 10 RBIs over 63 plate appearances. Cook has been added to the AAA Norfolk Tides’ roster as an outfielder, and will hopefully make his debut in Norfolk’s outfield rotation soon.
