Thursday’s matinee was Senior’s Day at Camden Yards, so it was only appropriate that the oldest starting pitcher in Baltimore Orioles history, Charlie Morton (41 years old), start the game. The Boston Red Sox found the “new” left field wall to their liking as they hit three two-run homeruns that way in an 8-4 defeat of the Orioles.
Morton gave up two of those homeruns, one to Alex Bregman in the first inning and the other to Kristian Campbell in the second. Both homers followed walks. Morton, who was tagged with the loss and is now 0-2 on the season, allowed 6 runs on 5 hits (2 HR), walked 2 and struck out 10 over 5.0 innings.
Bryan Baker (1.0 IP, K) continues to pitch well in relief. Keegan Akin, who allowed the third two-run homerun, allowed 2 runs on 2 hits over 1,0 inning of work. Matt Bowman (2.0 IP, R, H) closed out the game for the bullpen. All told, the Orioles used 11 relievers to cover 11.2 innings during the series.
Cedric Mullins hit a solo homerun from the lead-off spot and finished the day 1 for 3 (HR) with a run scored, 1 RBI, a walk and a stolen base.
Ramon Urias (2 for 4, RBI) continues to swing a hot bat (.429/ .500/ .976) this early in the season.
Jordan Westburg went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI and a walk.
Heston Kjerstad (1 for 2, R), Ryan Mountcastle (1 for 2) and Jackson Holliday (1 for 4, R) each hit a double in the contest.
Orioles batters were 2 for 6 with runners in scoring position.
Seven games into the season and it is hard to get a handle on what kind of team we actually have.
2025 Record: 3-4
