It’s been a very rocky start to the 2025 campaign for the Baltimore Orioles. Like last year, inconsistency has been the key theme. The O’s have had games where they score 12 runs and then score one or none the next game. The ups-and-downs of the first week has them sitting at 3-4 and at the bottom of the AL East.
It hasn’t all been bad news so far, as the team got a much-needed boost today. The team announced that star SS Gunnar Henderson is joining the team in Kansas City for their weekend three game series. A right intercostal strain sidelined Henderson for the latter part of Spring Training and the first seven games of the regular season. Henderson is set to make his season debut and join the fourth-best offensive in the MLB tonight against the Kansas City Royals.
This is great news for a very banged up O’s squad. The team already came into the season without Grayson Rodriguez and Kyle Bradish with shoulder and elbow injuries. They then took a hit when Colton Cowser broke his thumb last Sunday against Toronto while diving for a fly ball. The injury is likely to sideline Cowser for 6-8 weeks, shaking up the outfield and testing their depth. The already battered and bruised pitching staff took yet another hit when Tomoyuki Sugano left his start against the Blue Jays with “hand cramps.”
Adding the firepower and defense with Henderson will hopefully help propel the O’s to get their first series win of the young season. The O’s travel to Kansas City to take on the Royals on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
