The Baltimore Orioles dropped Friday’s game 9-4 to the Kansas City Royals. Once again, home umpire Bruce Dreckman made some highly questionable calls behind the plate but those calls were not why the Orioles ended their modest four game winning streak.
The Orioles were on the bad side of a 6-0 game after six innings. Starter Dean Kremer (5.2 IP, 3 R, 2 H, 1 HR, 3 BB, 3 K) left the game with 2 on and 2 out in the sixth. Keegan Akin (0.1 IP, 3 R, 3 H, BB) came on in relief and not only allowed the two inherited runners to score, but allowed three more runs to score. As a result, Kremer became the losing pitcher in the end and is now 0-2 on the season.
Adley Rutschman (3 for 5, HR, R, 4 RBI) gave the O’s new life with his seventh inning grand slam homerun but the Royals answered right back with three runs in their half of the seventh, accounting for the final score.
Anthony Santander went 1 for 2 with a double and 2 walks.
Cedric Mullins and Jordan Westburg each went 1 for 4 with a run scored while Austin Hays went 1 for 1 with a run scored and was hit by a pitch.
Dillon Tate struggled, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits (1 HR) in 1.0 inning of work.
Mike Baumann pitched the eighth inning and struck out 2.
