Sunday saw the Birds defeat the Minnesota Twins 8-3 st the Lee Health Sports Complex in Fort Meyers, FL. Highlighting the day was a solo homerun by Gunnar Henderson (1 for 2, HR, R, RBI) in the first inning as well as a three-run bomb by Adley Rutschman (1 for 2, HR, R, 3 RBI) in the seventh.
Nineteen Orioles got into the game, the final tune-up before the ’24 season begins in earnest on Thursday at Camden Yards.
Ryan O’Hearn went 2 for 2 with a double, a run scored, one RBI and a walk.
Jordan Westburg went 2 for 4 with a run scored and 2 RBI.
Tyler Nevin went 1 for 2, Ryan Mountcastle went 1 for 3 and Ramon Urias went 1 for 2 with a run scored and 1 RBI.
Grayson Rodriguez made his final start of the spring and allowed 2 hits, walked 1 and struck out 3 over 3.0 innings.
Cole Irvin (1-1) tossed 5.0 innings of relief, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits with 3 walks and a strikeout. Irvin was credited with the win and ended the Spring with a 6.23 ERA over 17.1 innings.
Jonathan Heasley pitched the ninth inning and allowed one run on four hits. For his efforts, Heasley was rewarded with an option to Norfolk.
Despite an 0 for 2, 2 strikeout day, Colton Cowser earned a spot on the Opening Day roster. (see Roch Kubatko’s story)
