An Orioles executive says again that big audio/video changes to Camden Yards won’t come until 2026.
Hello, friends.
The start of the World Series is still a day away. Any player movement that might involve the Orioles will have to wait until after the Yankees and the Dodgers settle this thing and a champion is crowned for the season. Obviously, I’m hoping it’s the Dodgers, but I won’t feel too bad for their sake if they lose.
Although nothing is going on with the roster right now, there is some peripheral news coming along. The last couple of weeks have seen the Orioles move on from their hitting coaches, and just earlier this week, from their head athletic trainer.
There’s also some not-really-new news from an interview in The Baltimore Banner with Orioles president of business operations Catie Griggs. In a conversation about how the team can improve the experience at Camden Yards, Griggs indicated that it will definitely not be until 2026 that serious renovations can be done to the audio and video systems at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. She added:
However, we are working to see what, if anything, we can put into place as an interim improvement for ’25, so that’s a work in progress. But any time we have an opportunity to find a way to make the experience better for our fans, we’re looking to do so.
This is expanding upon what we’ve previously heard about the renovations. Getting something big done is going to take time. Whether anything comes of the idea of interim improvements for next year, I guess we’ll see when the 2025 season rolls around. This sounds a lot like Mike Elias offering platitudes about the possibility of signing impact free agents.
There are places in the stadium where you can tell there needs to be some changes to the function of the speaker system. It’s good to know bigger change is in the works. Not much consolation for those who sit in the bad places in the meantime. Some sections are like the 2021 Orioles. You know better things are coming but for now it still sucks. At least we’ve moved beyond the roster being like that.

Birthdays and Orioles anniversaries
There is one current Oriole with a birthday today. Happy 27th to reliever Colin Selby, who made three appearances for the team this season. Also born today: 2012 infielder Omar Quintanilla, 1991-99 pitcher Arthur Rhodes, and Baltimore’s own 1989-91 pitcher Dave Johnson. It’s Johnson’s 65th birthday today, so an extra happy birthday to him.
Is today your birthday? Happy birthday to you! Your birthday buddies for today include: musician The Big Bopper (1930), actor Kevin Kline (1947), and rapper Drake (1986).
On this day in history…
In 1360, England and France agreed on the Treaty of Brétigny, which ceded a variety of territory in present-day France to England, provided for ransom for the captured French king John II, and saw England’s King Edward III renounce any claim to the French throne. This peace lasted for nine years and was ultimately just an interruption to the Hundred Years War.
In 1648, an assortment of European powers concluded the Peace of Westphalia, ending both the Thirty Years War and the Eighty Years War.
In 1908, according to tradition, the seventh inning stretch staple Take Me Out To The Ballgame was first performed. Its songwriters are said to have never seen a baseball game before writing the song.
In 1929, the New York Stock Exchange opened with an immediate 11% drop; this Black Thursday proved to be a precursor to even more stock upheaval within a week’s time and the start of the Great Depression.

And that’s the way it is in Birdland on October 24. Have a safe Thursday.
