The AAA Norfolk Tides beat the Charlotte Knights 1-0 in a strange ending on Saturday, June 29th. In the bottom of the 11th, with a 3-1 count and a runner on third base, center fielder Shayne Fontana took a wild pitch by pitcher Prelander Berroa. This allowed Tides’ shortstop Anthony Servideo to score from third.
The Tides’ starting pitcher of the day, Justin Armbruester, did a phenomenal job, pitching 6 innings. The 25-year old allowed four hits and struck out five. Nolan Hoffman received the win, pitching 2.1 innings, allowing no hits, striking out four, and walking two. This brought Hoffman’s record to 4-1 on the season.
The Tides only got two hits by Jackson Holliday and Billy Cook, but were able to pull off the win with smart at-bats and stellar base running. Currently, the team is taking on the Durham Bulls for a 6-game series, with two games at home this week and four away.
