If you can stand to watch this World Series, come discuss the game with your fellow Camden Chatters.
Here we go. Yankees. Dodgers. World Series. There’s going to be a lot of star power on the field and hopefully a lot of Yankees losses on the way. It all begins tonight.
8:08 ET – Yankees at Dodgers, Game 1, FOX
RHP Gerrit Cole vs. RHP Jack Flaherty
Jack Flaherty is starting Game 1 of the World Series. Just like every Orioles fan would have predicted after watching him last year. Flaherty, after his ill-fated 2023 stint with the Birds, has had an excellent 2024 season first with Detroit and now the Dodgers, although the club is said to be “moderately concerned” about his dip in velocity in his most recent start in the NLCS. Perhaps Flaherty just didn’t bounce back the way he wanted to. (I kid, but seriously, I hope he’s fine, or this game could get ugly in a hurry.) Anthony Rizzo has pounded Flaherty in his career with a 1.476 OPS and three home runs, while Juan Soto is 1-for-8 with five walks. Aaron Judge somehow has never faced him.
For the Yankees, Gerrit Cole will be making his 21st career playoff start and fourth of this postseason. He wasn’t sharp in his lone ALCS start against the Guardians, failing to get out of the fifth inning. Several Dodgers stars have hit him well in their careers, with Mookie Betts going 6-for-14 and Freddie Freeman — back in the lineup after an ankle injury — posting a 1.059 OPS in 22 PAs. Shohei Ohtani, meanwhile, is just 4-for-20 with one homer against Cole.
