It’s not a sweep, but Jack Flaherty could clinch it for the Dodgers tonight.
There will be baseball played tonight. Whether an act of hubris or prudence, the Dodgers tried a “bullpen game” approach on Tuesday night, and it did not go well. The Yankees staved off elimination with a convincing 11-4 win at home, scoring against each of the four Dodger arms they faced, including a grand slam from shortstop Anthony Volpe. From the stands, this guy kept it classy, of course, trying to literally pry a fly ball out of Mookie Betts’ glove while boosting the reputation of Yankees fans and getting ejected in the process.
Even in a loss, LA’s Freddie Freeman homered again, becoming the first player ever to homer in six straight World Series games. Wow. Los Angeles can win it all and sew up his World Series MVP award tonight. No team down 3-0 in the title series has ever won it all.
So the Yankees will face an actual starter tonight in a repeat of Game 1’s starter matchup: Jack Flaherty vs. Gerrit Cole. Both were good in Game 1, although Cole was better and left with his team in the lead. Flaherty has been hot and cold this postseason (ah, don’t we Orioles fans know this Flaherty all too well), and the game might depend on that. Bad Flaherty sends this series back to LA for Game 6; Good Flaherty ends it tonight. Stay tuned.
