The Washington Capitals left wing is currently injured due to a leg fracture. But he’s also a big basketball fan.
Washington Wizards games generally don’t attract Hollywood stars like the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers would. After all, we don’t have many movie studios here. But the DMV is one of the biggest hockey markets in the United States now thanks to the accomplishments of one man who is still playing for the Washington Capitals.
Washington Capitals left wing Alex Ovechkin, who has played for Washington’s NHL team since 2005, was in attendance for the Wizards vs. Celtics game last Friday. He has been a regular sight at Wizards games throughout his career. On Friday, he was on the court because he is recovering from a fibula fracture. The good news is that he wasn’t wearing crutches or a cast.

In addition, Ovechkin has basketball roots in his family. His mother, Tatyana Ovechkina was a star professional basketball player for Dynamo Moscow and won two Olympic gold medals for the Soviet Union, Russia’s predecessor state in 1976 and 1980. His father Mikhail was a soccer player.
It’s always good seeing fellow Monumental athletes in the building.
