Beard played in the WNBA from 2004-19, which included the Mystics from 2004-11 and the Los Angeles Sparks from 2012-19. While with the Mystics, Beard made four WNBA All-Star game appearances from 2005-07 and 2009, and the All-WNBA Second Team in 2006. In addition, Beard made four WNBA All-Defensive first and second team appearances while in a Mystics uniform.
After not playing for the Mystics in 2010 and 2011 due to foot and ankle injuries, Beard signed with the Sparks where she revived her career and became the WNBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2017 and 2018. She won one WNBA championship with L.A. in 2016.
Congratulations Alana on the honor!
