Tensions between former Warriors teammates Jordan Poole and Draymond Green refuse to die. The infamous punching incident in 2022 remains a dark chapter in the franchise’s history. Now on the Wizards, JP visited the Chase Center for the second time since being traded.
Returning to the Bay Area, Poole dropped 38 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists against his former team. The 2021-22 champion was also 8-for-15 from the 3-point line. Despite a Poole Party being on full display, the Wizards couldn’t finish the job, losing 122-114 to the Warriors.
Receiving a warm welcome from Dub Nation, Poole was seen catching up with former teammates and the management staff. A lot of the fans were seen wearing his No.3 jerseys as well. Addressing the media postgame, the 6’4″ guard reciprocated the adulation but had a few exceptions.

JP’s Cryptic Message Sparks Buzz
The Warriors selected Poole as the 28th pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. Seen as a backup to an injured Klay Thompson at the time, JP would develop as one of the most reliable shooters on the roster. His four-year stint in the Bay Area was nothing short of a roller-coaster ride.
Shipped to Washington in the summer of 2023, Poole found himself in a challenging situation. Occasionally having his big nights, JP hasn’t been able to lift the Wizards from the East’s bottom rankings. Nonetheless, the 25-year-old has no ill feelings for his former team.
“Yeah, I love those guys over there. I love most of those guys over there. A really good group. A really good staff. Shout out to the fans. I saw a lot of 3 jerseys out there, a lot of JP3 jerseys, which is always really cool. I always get a lot of love (here). I spent some good quality time here, and it’s dope to see it appreciated.”
One cannot help but notice the underlying tone of Poole’s message for his former teammates. Revealing how he loved most of the guys on the Warriors, JP potentially alluded to the infamous punching episode with Green and the aftermath.
Green Responds to JP’s Cryptic Message
Within a few hours of Poole’s statement creating a buzz on social media, Green tweeted a reply.
I really am sorry
— Draymond Green (@Money23Green) January 19, 2025
It’s no secret how Green publicly acknowledged his mistake even apologizing to Poole. Nevertheless, things haven’t been the same. The bitterness continues to remain despite them no longer being teammates. The two tend to have their run-ins during the Warriors-Wizards regular-season meetups.
The Last Word
The infamous punching incident between Green and Poole will go down as one of the darkest days in the Warriors franchise’s history. Although they did play on the same side the next season, tensions remained in the locker room. Many believe this stopped the Dubs from repeating in the 2022-23 season.
No doubt, Green is one of Golden State’s core pieces, but that doesn’t construe to discounting Poole’s contributions. The former Warriors guard was instrumental in bringing Dub Nation their fourth title in eight years. Hopefully, as time passes, the two have no bad blood remaining.
