As expected..
After playing a total of 77 seconds in the last two games, Coulibaly actually saw some action already in the first quarter, and even scored a floater in the first possession after coming in. Number 99 then played for almost 6-7 consecutive minutes, and even scored an emphatic dunk in transition to give France 25-24 lead, and force the USA coach to take a timeout!
Coulibaly was definitely the momentum changer in that stretch, and gave some impressive defense. It was certainly a bold move by the French coach.
That was also the last time France led. Coulibaly then sat, and the USA took over, and maintained a lead around 8-12 points.
Coulibaly was then inserted back in with 6 or so minutes left in the third, with the USA leading 61-47. He played good defense, but was confused on the offense. Missing simple shots, for instance a layup in transition against Steph Curry, and a floater that came way short completely undefended. In general, Coulibaly seems a bit hesitant on offense.
France then made a little run to close the third and make it a 6-point game, 72-66.
Coulibaly then came back in for crunch time in the fourth quarter, made a nice mid-range shot, but ultimately, France could not stop Steph Curry who had 8 threes for the night, including 4 threes (!) in the last few minutes of the game, while France shot poorly from deep in the first half (3 for 16), and the improvement in the second half was too little too late. Moreover, France shot poorly from the free-throw line.
The USA wins gold medal no. 38 in these Olympics.
