Nembhard is a walking triple-double threat each game for the Go-Go.
In this series, we’re introducing you to the noteworthy members of the Capital City Go-Go, the Wizards’ G League affiliate. Next up, is Ruben “RJ” Nembhard Jr. Nembhard is a 6-4 combo guard that graduated from Texas Christian University after the 2020-2021 college basketball season.
He went undrafted and has been mostly playing in the G League and overseas ever since. During the 2021-2022 NBA season, he played in 14 games for the Cleveland Cavaliers but only played 63 total minutes.
This season, he has started 7 of 8 games for the Capital City Go-Go and is averaging 17.9 points, 7.6 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 3.9 turnovers. He’s hit 30% of his 2.5 3-point attempts per game. As you can see from his stats, he’s incredibly productive during his 33 minutes per game.
Unfortunately, the turnovers and 3-point percentage probably stand out as negative indicators for NBA teams. To me, even at 25 years old, I’d still continue to invest in someone with his size, athleticism, and level of productivity because if you can clean up some of the rougher edges of his game, he’s definitely an NBA-level player.
Fun Fact: @RubeNembhard is averaging 18 PTS, 6.3 REB and 5.9 AST, the only standard G League contract player currently to do so #BeatOfDC pic.twitter.com/XhPceeivMo

Between the G League and NBA Summer League, every time I’ve seen him in person, I’ve come away impressed. His father, Ruben Nembhard Sr., played one season in the NBA and 15 seasons overseas and you can just see that basketball pedigree in Nembhard Jr.’s game. He just makes timely players whether they be cuts, steals, or drive-and-kicks.
At the very least, if a two-way contract opens up for the Wizards, they should consider putting him on one. He’s a walking triple-double threat every game, and his versatility helps plug a lot of holes, which is invaluable in the G League as rosters change on an almost nightly basis.
