Here is when many of the NBA’s stars will come to D.C. this season.
The Washington Wizards’ 2024-25 schedule was released on Thursday. Although rebuilding, this Wizards squad will still host some marquee matchups.
Below is a couple high-profile home games to monitor for the 2024-25 season:
Oct. 24: v.s. Boston
This will be the first time Washington opens the regular season at home since 2018. For reference, John Wall scored 26 points and Jeff Green added 17 off the bench in a narrow 113-112 loss to Miami the last time the Wizards hosted a regular season opener.
While the Wizards open at home, most fans understand this will be more like a neutral site game with how Celtics fans have historically taken over Capital One Arena.
It’s nice that Washington will start the season at home. However, they’ll almost certainly kick off the 2024-25 campaign with a blowout loss to the reigning champs.
Nov. 4: v.s. Golden State
Steph Curry comes to town in early November for a bout with the rebuilding Wizards. Jordan Poole will face his former team for the third time since being traded last offseason.
Draymond Green versus Jordan Poole will be a matchup fans monitor throughout this contest due to their altercation in 2022.
Dec. 5: v.s. Dallas
Following a February trade to Dallas last season, former Wizards center Daniel Gafford will return to D.C. in early December.
Gafford was a fan-favorite during his tenure in Washington and will receive a tribute video and well-deserved ovation when he comes back to his old stomping ground.
Sidenote: This also serves as a Richaun Holmes revenge game.
Dec. 28 and 30: v.s. New York
Top contenders in the East, Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks come to D.C. for a two-game set to close out 2024.
Like Boston, these Wizards home games feel more like road games due to the Knicks large fanbase. With the Knicks hopeful for an NBA title, this two-game series should be fun to watch, even if it results in a pair of lopsided losses for the Wizards.
Jan. 16: v.s. Suns (TNT)
Washington’s sole national TV game, former Wizard Bradley Beal comes home to D.C. in mid-January. Beal spent 10 seasons in the Nation’s Capital before being traded last offseason for draft capital and veteran players such as Chris Paul.
Beal received a warm welcome in D.C. last season before dropping 43 points on his former team. With Devin Booker and Kevin Durant in town alongside Beal, there will be tons of offensive firepower on display when the Wizards play on TNT.
Jan. 30: v.s. Lakers
LeBron James and Anthony Davis will be in town to close out January. With James nearing 40 years old, this could be one of the last times Wizards fans get to see him up close, making it a marquee matchup.
Former Wizard Rui Hachimura will return to face his old squad as well, yet another reason for Wizards fans to pop out for this contest.
Feb. 10: v.s. Spurs
2023 No. 1 pick and reigning Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama comes to D.C. in early February for a matchup with his fellow Frenchman, Bilal Coulibaly.
The Wizards lost to the Spurs at home last season but secured a victory in San Antonio, splitting the season series.
Feb. 21: v.s. Bucks
Giannis, Dame and company seek a revenge season after injuries derailed their 2023-24 campaign.
Milwaukee will travel to Washington following the All-Star break, likely facing a revamped Wizards roster post-trade deadline.
The Wizards won a shocker at home against the Bucks last season, arguably their most impressive victory of the year.
Feb. 26: v.s. Trailblazers
Deni Avdija comes home to D.C. for the first time following an offseason trade that sent the former Wizards No. 9 pick to Portland in exchange for Malcolm Brogdon, Bub Carrington and draft capital.
Avdija should receive a standing ovation for his time as a Wizard, a fan favorite that many fans will still be rooting for as he moves on to a new team.
