- Group A: Spain beat Serbia, 70-62
The Spanish came through the group undefeated and the top seed among Group A teams with the Serbians winning second place. Puerto Rico had a -4 point differential before heading into the game and lost, which is good for Belgium and Japan who play today for third place. However, China won by 22 points, which also diminished their chances of advancing to the quarterfinals unless it’s very lopsided today.
5×5 men’s basketball recap for Aug. 3
- Group C: United States beat Puerto Rico, 104-83
- Group C: Serbia beat South Sudan, 96-85
The Americans won the group while the Serbians were second place. South Sudan was third place with a 1-2 record, but had the worst point differential of all teams that were third place.
3×3 women’s basketball recap for Aug. 3
The USA Basketball women’s national team went undefeated with wins against France in group play and China in the play-in. They finished with a 4-3 record, good for third place in the elimination round. Germany finished first place with a 6-1 record in group play. Though Spain tied with the Americans, with a 4-3 record, they had a better point differential, sending Team USA to the play-In round.
It looks like after a rough 0-3 start, the Americans have found their groove, and their 21-13 blowout over China shows it.
The Americans are off until Monday, when they play Spain in the semifinals. Even if the USA loses, they will still play the bronze medal the same day, because these games are only 10 minutes or 21 points, whichever is faster.

3×3 men’s basketball schedule for Aug. 4
The USA Basketball men’s national team has a 2-4 record in group play. That record is tied with France and Poland who are behind due to tiebreakers and point differential.
The main goal today for America is to stay in the Top 6 so they can move on into the play-in. The Americans have one game to finish group play which is against the Netherlands, who are ranked 5th in the world for 3×3 men’s basketball. The Dutch will be looking to win this game for a chance to avoid the play-in. Either way, the Dutch should be making the Top 6.
If the USA wins, they’ll make the play-in in the evening and let the chips fall where they may. If not, the Americans have to keep the differential small to increase their chances of staying alive.
- France vs. China, 11:30 a.m. ET
- Poland vs. Latvia, 12 p.m.
- Lithuania vs. Serbia, 12:35 p.m.
