Belgium, Australia, France and the USA are this year’s Olympic semifinalists in women’s basketball.
The 2024 Olympics are slowly coming to an end. Let’s get to yesterday’s scores and what we have today.
5X5 Women’s Basketball Quarterfinals Scores
Here are the scores from yesterday’s women’s basketball matches in the quarterfinals.
- Australia 85, Serbia 67 — Albert recapped this one.
- Belgium 79, Spain 66 — Albert also recapped this one.
- France 84, Germany 71 — Like Les Bleus’ quarterfinal on Tuesday, Les Bleues (remember the French women’s team has a similar yet slightly different nickname) was able to be in control for the vast majority of this game. They led by as many as 19. New York Liberty guard Marine Johannes led the French with 24 points in her usual spectacular fashion. Gabby Williams had a big game in her own right with 15 points, 5 assists, and 6 rebounds. For Germany, the Sabally sisters combined for 30 points despite struggling to shooting a combined 5 of 23 from the field.
- United States 88, Nigeria 74 — The USA just kept rolling in this game. They scored half of their 88 points in the paint and led by as many as 31 points. The Americans drew a pair of Aces in A’ja Wilson (20 points, 11 rebounds) and Jackie Young (15 points). Nigeria did not give in its first Olympic quarterfinal appearance. D’Tigresses fought back within 14 in the fourth quarter. Former Arizona State point guard Promise Amukamara led the team with 19 points.
5X5 Men’s Basketball Semifinals Schedule
Here are today’s men’s basketball games in the Olympics. They are all on some form of cable TV. And better yet, Washington Wizards guard Bilal Coulibaly will be on TV too!
- France vs. Germany, 11:30 a.m. ET (USA)
The home team needs to avenge a 14-point loss to Germany to return to the Finals. Dennis Schroder led the Germans with 26 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists in that game. Germany beat Greece 76-63 in their first Olympic quarterfinal appearance, while France took out Canada 82-73. France is looking for their second consecutive trip to the Olympic Final and fourth overall. A win for Germany would ensure the first medal in the country’s history, men’s or women’s.
- United States vs. Serbia, 2:45 p.m. ET (USA)
While Team USA smoothly beat Serbia by 26 to start the group stage, Nikola Jokic still looms large for the Americans. Joel Embiid was kept out of the US’s quarterfinal victory over Brazil with ankle soreness. Serbia will need more than Jokic to pull off the upset, but they’ve been up to the task in the past, albeit against a different level of talent. The USA has not lost in the Olympic semifinals since 2004.
Enjoy the men’s semifinals everyone!
