Washington Wizards guard Bilal Coulibaly didn’t play at all in the semifinals. But we don’t care. He’s coming to D.C. this fall with a medal.

Game info

Where: Accor Arena, Paris
How to watch: NBC (WRC-TV in the D.C. area) and Peacock
What to watch for
Alright, it all comes down to this. Les Bleus have gone on a strong run as the underdogs in each of their last two matches, winning over Canada, a previous medal favorite in the quarterfinals, and then getting revenge against Germany in the semifinals. The home crowd is on their side, cent pour cent. And they have a chance to win la medaille d’or against the schoolyard bullies (Les Êtats-Unis), with the home fans behind their back.
It just doesn’t get any better than this if you’re a fan of the French. And let me add that this is a repeat of the 2020 Olympic gold medal match as well.
The Americans are going for their fifth consecutive gold medal behind their NBA superstars of superstars squad led by LeBron James and Kevin Durant. They will be favored to win this game, even after their near-loss to Serbia on Thursday. But if France can get on a big run early on, you never know what will happen.
All we can hope for now as Wizards fans is to see Bilal Coulibaly get a couple minutes. Either way, he’ll have a medal, so I’m not complaining about that.
