Pregame Notes
It has been a few weeks, but we are ready for some Mystics basketball. When they step on the court on Thursday, it may take a few moments to recognize some of the players on the court. Shakira Austin and Brittany Sykes are expected to make their long-awaited returns to boost a team that has desperately missed both for much of the season.
The Mystics start the post Olympic break of the schedule half tied for last place in the league and 4.5 games out of the 8th and final playoff spot. At this point, the Mystics have to get things together by getting a rhythm with their two returning stars and see where the rest of this season will go.
On the other side, the Lynx will also feature a returning star with Napheesa Collier. Collier played on the gold medal winning USA women’s basketball team, but has not played in a WNBA game since Independence Day, which was the day that she went down with a foot injury. If you saw any of the Olympics, you likely saw that she was healthy and a contributor to their team’s gold medal run. Her presence back with the Lynx will be critical as the Lynx try to fight for playoff seeding down the final stretch of the season.
