Washington Mystics guard Julie Vanloo scored 11 for Belgium while Emma Meesseman led with 19.
The Belgium women’s national team will not get a second chance to play the United States Unfortunately, the Cats lost to France, 81-75 in Paris on Friday night.
This was a relatively even game, though the Cats were leading more of the time than Les Bleues (again, the women’s team is spelled differently since we are also covering the men’s team, Les Bleus because of Washington Wizards guard Bilal Coulibaly). The Cats also went on a 22-0 scoring run at one point front he second through third quarters when it appeared that they would take full control and come out with an even bigger win.
However, France went took the lead in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter and never let go. Like Les Bleus last night, Les Bleues took advantage of the sixth man advantage they had as the host nation for the Olympics.
Washington Mystics guard Julie Vanloo scored 11 points tonight, but shot just 2-of-11 from the field for Belgium. Emma Meesseman led with 19 points, 14 rebounds, and 6 assists as well for the Cats.
For France, Gabby Williams led with 18 points while Valeriane Ayayi added 17 more.
France will play the United States on Sunday in the gold medal match at about 9:30 a.m. ET. Belgium will play Australia on Sunday in the bronze medal match at about 5:30 a.m. ET. See you all then.
