Turnovers in the first half proved to be too much for Washington to overcome.
The Washington Mystics lost to the Seattle Storm on Tuesday night, 83-77 at the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Congress Heights.
The first game was all Seattle with the Storm racing to a 44-30 lead. Though the Storm shots just 36.5 percent from the field, Washington committed 15 turnovers in that half along, which turned into 19 points. In addition, Shakira Austin, who got the start, committed five of those same turnovers.
Washington was able to get hot in the third quarter as they held Seattle to 31.2 percent shooting and Ariel Atkins went on to score 14 of her 25 points in the period, allowing Washington to head into the fourth quarter with a 61-57 deficit.

Though the Mystics kept things interesting in the fourth quarter, their earlier deficits weren’t enough to complete the comeback. Nienke Ogwumike led the Storm with 24 points while Jewell Loyd added 18 more.
For Washington, in addition to Atkins, Austin added 24 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Washington’s next game is against the Sparks on Friday. Tip off is at 7:30 p.m. ET. See you then.
