It’s Johnny Davis’ (preseason) world, folks.
The Washington Wizards managed to quickly erase Monday’s beatdown against the Brooklyn Nets from the team’s memory. Johnny Davis served as the eraser Friday in a 118-117 win over the New York Knicks at Capital One Arena.
The Wizards led nearly the entire first half against a Knicks squad that was playing all of their top guys. Jordan Poole led the way with 16 points on 6/10 shooting from the field in the opening two quarters. Great ball movement early led to 18 first-half assists for Washington as the home team led 63-61 at the break.
With Poole, Kyle Kuzma, and Jonas Valanciunas being kept out after halftime, the Knicks looked like they were going to finally take control of the game. But a team-wide effort kept the Wizards close up until the final few minutes.
Taylor Funk hit three massive threes in the fourth quarter, including a go-ahead triple with just over two minutes left in the contest.
Funk served as the set-up man as Davis stepped up as the team’s closer. The third-year pro scored the Wizards’ final six points capped off by the game-winning bank shot with seven seconds left.

Davis also made the game-ending steal to prevent the Knicks from even getting a last shot. He finished the contest with 14 points on 5/8 shooting to go along with five assists and three steals.
The Wizards had 12 different players score at least five points in the contest. Bub Carrington had seven points and three rebounds, while Kyshawn George tallied eight points, four rebounds, and five assists in Washington’s preseason finale.
