The changes involve out-of-bounds calls and whether a foul has been committed.
The Washington Wizards will begin the 2024-25 NBA season will begin in just a few weeks. While there isn’t much news going around in the league, one notable thing came earlier this week on instant replay.
According to a press release earlier this week, the NBA announced that they will expand how they will use certain Coach’s Challenges that require instant replay. The expansion of use focuses on out-of-bounds calls where a Coach’s Challenge happens. In these instances, the referees will use instant replay, not just to determine which team has possession of the ball, but also whether a foul was committed close to the time of the out-of-bounds violation.
The decision to expand this use had unanimous support of the players, coaches, officials, team executives and team governors. The end result of this move is that plays with these types of challenges will be scrutinized more, and games will likely take a little longer as a result.
