Miller was previously the Head Coach of the Los Angeles Sparks and the Connecticut Sun. Now, the Washington Mystics have one less person to go after with their front office vacancies.
On Friday, the Dallas Wings announced that Curt Miller, the former head coach of the Los Angeles Sparks and Connecticut Sun, was named their new Executive Vice President and General Manager. The news is significant because Miller is now one less person whom the Washington Mystics could possibly target with their current General Manager vacancy.
This is not Miller’s first time as a General Manager. He was also the Sun’s General Manager from 2017-22 where he was named the WNBA’s Executive of the Year and led the team two WNBA Finals appearances where the Sun lost to the Mystics in 2019 and the Las Vegas Aces in 2022.
The Wings, like the Mystics, are in the 2025 WNBA Draft Lottery. They effectively have a 45.4 percent chance of winning the No. 1 pick. While Dallas has a 27.6 percent chance of winning the No. 1 pick with their own first round pick, they have a 2025 first round draft pick swap with the Chicago Sky, who have a 17.8 percent chance of getting that pick. So if Chicago gets the No. 1 pick, it’s going to Dallas.
While the Wings have decided on their General Manager pick rather quickly, I wouldn’t panic too much if I were Monumental Basketball President Michael Winger. The attractiveness of the Mystics General Manager position can change significantly depending on whether they get the No. 1 pick if they get lucky or the No. 4 pick if the lottery odds hold.
