They were 30th to start the 2024-25 season, but are now 27th.
The Washington Wizards are not going to be a playoff team in the 2024-25 NBA season. In fact, they may very well be one of the bottom three or even the worst team once the regular season ends. But for now, Washington’s recent two-game winning streak against the Atlanta Hawks has helped them in various power rankings.
ESPN released their latest NBA Power Rankings yesterday, where Washington ranked 27th. They have a 2-4 regular season record and are ranked ahead of the Detroit Pistons, Portland Trail Blazers and Utah Jazz who hold the last three spots.
Ohm Youngmisuk wrote the excerpt for Washington’s 27th place ranking, crediting the two-game win streak, Bilal Coulibaly’s noted improvement from last season and Jordan Poole’s strong start. That is even considering Kyle Kuzma getting injured and missing Washington’s last two games due to a groin injury.
Again, this season is still in its infancy. The losses will accumulate. However, if Coulibaly and Poole can continue to have their strong starts over the next month of games, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Wizards move up a little more in these rankings when they win some additional contests.
