The Washington Mystics haven’t given 2025 season ticket invoices to everyone yet, but everyone can expect an increase, even if the team didn’t play well this season.
The WNBA has enjoyed significant growth in the 2020s, and in particular this year with Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark and Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese entering the league. Television ratings are up, and in game attendance is up as well. Therefore, it shouldn’t be a surprise that WNBA ticket prices are rising especially season tickets for 2025.
Juliana Kaplan and Jacob Zinkula wrote a piece on Business Insider this weekend about the dilemma WNBA fans face. While they are happy to see arenas with more fans and sports pundits talking more about the WNBA on a daily basis, ticket prices have increased significantly on average from last season.
Per Kaplan’s and Zinkula’s article, the Fever had the largest price increase by percentage (169 percent or an average of $58 to $156 per seat) from 2023 to 2024. That is understandable because they have Clark as their franchise player.
The Mystics aren’t immune to the “Clark Effect,” even if they are one of the worst teams this season. Ticket prices increased by 86 percent from 2023 to 2024, or $79 to $147 per seat. It’s the sixth-highest percentage in the league.
With these kind of price increases, it raises questions on how much season ticket prices could go up for 2025. For much, if not most of the league’s history, season tickets, have been affordable, much less than an NBA team’s prices for a similar location. Now, at least some fans could be priced out.
For disclosure, I do have Mystics season tickets, but I haven’t received next season’s invoice yet. But before seeing how much prices will increase, it is also worth noting that with the WNBA’s growth and inflation in general, a price increase is a reflection of that growth, to a point.
Will that price increase end up hurting Mystics game attendance? It’s too early to say. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
