The Washington Wizards have opened up trade discussions centered on Rui Hachimura, sources tell Shams Charania and Josh Robbins of The Athletic.
Hachimura will be a restricted free agent this offseason and he is represents a surplus at the forward position for the Wizards. Hachimura will have a qualifying offer of $8.48 million in the offseason to become a restricted free agent.
The Wizards have also received interest on Kyle Kuzma, but they would like to re-sign him. If the Wizards trade Hachimura, it would signal a confidence that they will be able to keep Kuzma.
Washington drafted Hachimura ninth in the 2019 NBA Draft out of Gonzaga.
A number of Western Conference teams have interest in Hachimura.
