The Washington Capitals have traded defenseman Joel Edmundson to the Toronto Maple Leafs for two draft picks. The picks a third-round pick (from New York Islanders) in 2024 and a fifth-round pick in 2025 originally from the Chicago Blackhawks.
Edmundson started the season injured but played in 44 games for the Capitals in which he had one goal, five assist and a -5 +/- record. Edmundson was a solid “Steady Eddie” type of defenseman that was a low risk signing in the offseason for the Capitals. The Capitals will also retain 50% of Edmundson’s salary.
The Capitals are stocking up on draft picks which I think they will eventually move. Here is the Capitals tweet regarding the move.
