The Washington Capitals play the New York Islanders, tonight on one of the last three games before the holiday break. The NHL also implemented a roster freeze as of midnight last night. This allows players a bit of breathing room, as they know they won’t be traded or sent to the minors during the holidays.
Before the roster freeze, the Capitals put T.J. Oshie, and Sonny Milano on the injured reserve and called up Hendrix LaPierre and Ivan Miroshnichenko from Hershey. These are both previous first round draft picks of the Capitals. Both players have been playing extremely well in Hershey. These are the last moves the team can and will make before the rosters froze.
This is the first game in a set of back to backs that the Capitals have. They will fly to Columbus tonight to face the Blue Jackets tomorrow. They will then fly back for a game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Capitals have been playing a ton of away games this month so there is a chance they will be jet lagged for this game and a bit slower getting to pucks in the corner.
