The Washington Capitals are having a rematch with the Colorado Avalanche. The last time they played this season, The Caps lost after giving up four goals to Nathan MacKinnon. The Capitals are coming off a stretch where they took 3 points out of a possible 4 from two top teams in the NHL.
Ever since Evgeny Kuznetsov went into the league substance abuse program, Alex Ovechkin has been on a scoring streak. He has scored in every game since the all star break. He also just recently got an empty net goal which passed him over Wayne Gretzky for most open net goals. He is sitting at 864 career goals. Ovi needs 60 to tie and 61 to pass Gretzky for all time leader.
In the past few games, the defense has looked way more attentive out there and not lost. This is what allowed them to beat Boston and take Vancouver into overtime. This has also taken stress of of the goaltenders. This is a key thing because the Avs like to push the puck and get many shots on goal so defense is key to shutting them down.
