The Washington Capitals are welcoming the Los Vegas Golden Knights to Capital One arena. This is the second game in the early hockey season for Washington. Its also goaltender Logan Thompson’s first start and a game against his former team. The Caps are coming off a season opening loss to New Jersey and hoping to bounce back in this game.
Head coach Spencer Carberry has made some changes to the lineup. He has moved Alex Ovechkin from left wing to right wing. Jakob Vrana is also coming in to replace Sonny Milano in the lineup. Dylan McIlarth is also being inserted into the lineup on the second line pairing with Martin Fehervary after the injury to Matt Roy. Also Charlie Lindgren is getting the night off which is telling that he and Logan Thompson will be switching off as their is no number one goaltender.
The Capitals are starting the season with a three game homestand. This is a really good thing scheduling wise, as it gives the team time to find their footing, while playing in front of a home crowd. It makes it easier to kind of gel and build up early season chemistry. It also gives the goaltenders time to play in front of a friendly crowd.
Vegas is 3-0-0 to start the season and is favorited to win. Because they’ve played more than Washington, the team might be a little more bruised than Washington and find it harder to get going. It also has an adverse effect on the game play, as Vegas has had more time to gel and might be a little bit more solid.
The game is at 7:00
