Welcome back to another day of NHL Predictions. Each day, Last Word on Hockey takes a look at the games that are happening and gives our predictions for each one, breaking down head-to-head and other factors that may play in. We also have a featured game of the day, which is considered must-watch TV. Today’s featured game is between the New York Rangers and the Washington Capitals.
NHL Predictions: New York Rangers vs Washington Capitals
Edmonton Oilers vs Columbus Blue Jackets
Head to Head: Oilers 0-0 Blue Jackets
Our first game on the NHL Predictions is a lopsided affair. The high-flying Edmonton Oilers take on the lowly Columbus Blue Jackets. Columbus is coming off a 2-0 loss, whereas Edmonton pummeled Pittsburgh.
Connor McDavid continues his historic season. He now has 46 goals and 63 assists and continues to he a dominant factor. The Oilers average the most goals scored per game, which doesn’t bode well for Columbus who lets beach balls cross the goal line.
Predictions: Oilers defeat Blue Jackets 5-1
Pittsburgh Penguins vs St Louis Blues
Head to Head: Penguins 0-0 Blues
The next game on our NHL Predictions is between teams who are trying to find their way. Both the Pittsburgh Penguins and St Louis Blues are coming off brutal losses, and the Blues coach did not hold back on the play of his club.
Pittsburgh needs to right the ship sooner than later. The wild card slot is closing in and the race is close. St Louis has traded away two of it’s impactful veterans and the fire sale isn’t over.
Prediction: Penguins defeat Blues 4-0
New York Rangers vs Washington Capitals
Head to Head: Rangers 0-0 Capitals
Our featured game on the NHL Predictions is a Metropolitan division showdown. The New York Rangers travel to the Nations Capital to take on the Washington Capitals. Washington enters the game after swinging a big trade with the Boston Bruins.
Not only is the club without captain. Alex Ovechkin, but out the door is Dmitry Orlov and Garnet Hathaway. With the playoff hopes fading away, selling off expiring extensions is a wise move. But those are guys you want against this Rangers team.
Despite coming off a tough loss last night, the Rangers have been good since the break overall. They’ve gone 6-3 and have made splash trades since then. Igor Shesterkin should he in the crease after Jaroslav Halak played in Detroit. With trying to catch their rival New Jersey Devils, the two points matters to the Rangers.
Prediction: Rangers defeat Capitals 4-2
