With the large amount of games on tonight’s NHL schedule, it might be hard to know where to start. We at the Last Word on Hockey have helped narrow your focus to our best bets. This round of NHL Predictions will help condense the slate into three best bets and one prop bet of the night.
NHL Predictions
Boston Bruins vs Buffalo Sabres
Head-to-Head: Bruins 0-0 Sabres
TV: NESN; MSG-Buffalo
Here’s our first game of NHL predictions. It’s the first meeting of the season between the Atlantic Division foes. Linus Ullmark will likely get the call in goal for the Boston Bruins. However, always check social media before locking in a fantasy starter in goal. Boston is coming off a 3-2 overtime loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night. David Pastrnak has 10 goals and 11 assists for 21 points to lead the Bs.
The Buffalo Sabres likely go with Devon Levi in between the pipes. Buffalo has been very inconsistent at times this season. It’s still a young team, but many want this group to take the next step. Jeff Skinner leads the team with seven goals so far this season.
Boston is 12-1-1 coming off a loss in games against Buffalo. That trend should continue.
Prediction: Bruins win 4-2.
Calgary Flames vs Montreal Canadiens
Head-to-Head: Flames 0-0 Canadiens
TV: Sportsnet West; TSN2; RDS
It’s a Canadian matchup as the Calgary Flames take on the Canadiens. Calgary is struggling and has lost three of their last five games. Jacob Markstrom is the confirmed starter in goal for the Flames, who are struggling at both ends of the ice. There were supposed to be good things in store for Calgary. However, the wheels seem to be falling off in Alberta.
Montreal is high-flying and has been a pleasant surprise. Cole Caufield is the fastest player to seven overtime-winners. Samuel Montembeault is the starter for the Habs, who are coming off a loss to the Vancouver Canucks last time out. Montreal isn’t wowing people in stats, but Martin St. Louis is playing well.
The Canadiens are off to a solid start and that continues here.
Prediction: Canadiens win 5-2.
Vegas Golden Knights vs Washington Capitals
Head-to-Head: Golden Knights 0-0 Capitals
TV: Monument Sports; Scripps
Our featured game of NHL predictions has the Vegas Golden Knights versus Washington Capitals. Charlie Lindgren gets the call in between the pipes for the Caps, who have won three of their last five games. Dylan Strome has six goals to lead Washington, but Alex Ovechkin is starting to come on for the club. The Capitals have tighten things up on the defensive end in recent games.
Vegas will go with Logan Thompson in goal, as they have won three of the last five games. The Golden Knights have gotten two shutouts in those three victories. When the Knights are clicking on offence, watch out. William Karlsson has eight goals and 10 assists for 18 points so far this year.
The Knights have been playing like defending champions. This should continue in a tight one with the Capitals.
Prediction: Golden Knights win 4-3.
Prop Bet of the Night
Let’s go back to the Boston and Buffalo game for tonight’s prop bet of the evening. We’ll go back to David Pastrnak and his hot play. The man called “Pasta” looks good for a multiple-point night in this one. We like Pastrnak getting the over on 1.5 points in the matchup with the Sabres. Pastrnak has been strong against Buffalo for most of his career.
