The Stanley Cup Final will begin Saturday night. That does not mean the offseason sloes down and life stops. Teams have new bench bosses while others are aiming to finalize contract extensions. One key part off the offseason is free agency. This year’s class has some high-profile names worthy of noting down. Today we take a look at Dmitry Orlov contract.
Dmitry Orlov Future Contract
Rumour: Luke Fox at Sports Net discusses the latest buzz around d key free agents
As mentioned above, there are key free agents. A Dmitry Orlov contract is something to monitor. With the Washington Capitals fading out of the playoff picture, striking a deal made sense. The pending unrestricted free agent was sent to the Boston Bruins for a nice haul. This was capitalizing on a good return for a team that was going all in on a championship. With Boston having cap issues, a Dmitry Orlov contract there does not seem likely.
Where Does Orlov Go From Here?
With the contract extension to superstar forward David Pastrnak, the salary cap picture is clear as day. With key free agents and little money to spend, making Orlov part of the future is unlikely. For the other team’s in the league, Orlov is an attractive piece.
Orlov is a player that has played for a long time. He is a Stanley Cup Champion and has emerged as a solid two-way defenseman. Boston used him on the power play where he played well and they utilized his offensive abilities.
A reunion in the nation’s capital could happen. Orlov has been spending time with centre Evgeni Kuznetsov. Based on what he said after the first round exit, it will all be up to him and talking with his family. Orlov is coming off a contract with a cap hit of $5.1 million and could see a significant rise on the next contract.
