It’s Easter Sunday, but that doesn’t mean the NHL rumours have to stop. We’re closing in on the end of the NHL regular season. Some teams are preparing for a Stanley Cup Playoff run. However, other teams are going to have to make some roster changes. The Washington Capitals will be missing out on the post-season for the first time since 2014. This means there may be some moves that need to be made. One of those could be a possible Tom Wilson trade and this edition of NHL rumours looks at that.
All NHL rumours come from the original source and are subject to change.

Capitals Looking Into Tom Wilson Trade?
Rumour: Dan Rosen of NHL.com addressed the Capitals’ future in a recent edition of his mailbag. Rosen said Washington won’t go into a full-blow rebuild while Alex Ovechkin chases Wayne Gretzky‘s scoring record. However, he said there may be some tweaks made to the lineup to get the Capitals back into the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The mailbag this week focuses on the Wild’s goaltending, surgery in Washington, McDavid’s cast around him, the Lightning’s dynasty and scoring:https://t.co/G1JeKCgSlv

A recent edition of NHL rumours talked about a possible Evgeny Kuznetsov trade, but Wilson is a name that jumps off the page. Next year, Wilson is entering the final year of his contract that sees him make around $5.2 million per season. The 29-year-old has made a name for himself being a linemate of Ovechkin’s and his aggressive play. He’s endeared himself to Capitals fans and disliked by a number of other fan bases.
Is a Tom Wilson Trade Possible?
The flat cap era is making teams have to deal some players they may not want to. Washington general manager Brian MacLellan wants to give Ovechkin another shot at a championship before it’s over. However, it seems like Ovechkin, John Carlson, Nicklas Backstrom and T.J. Oshie will be back for at least one more season.
MacLellan also has to deal with the fact a decision on head coach Peter Laviolette needs to be made soon. Decisions about players like Anthony Mantha also need to be made this off-season. Washington may have to make some unpleasant moves if it wants to keep pace in the Metropolitan Division.
A team adding Wilson would love to have his intensity and checking prowess. He’s also been known to chip in the occasional goal when needed. Wilson could be a good addition to a team willing to take on his contract.
