This is massive news for the Washington Capitals. Locking up Dylan Strome to a contract extension is a great move. That deal is team friendly and helps keep the core group together and they look to compete while Alex Ovechkin is still in the fold. It also helps he’s having a great year for the club. Overall this is a huge win for the franchise.
How This Impacts Strome
For a player that has bounced around some, has finally found his niche. Strome is no slouch of a centre as he once bit the 50-point mark in his career. His last few seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks went well and he set a career-high in goals (22) last season. He signed a one-year deal and Washington took a chance on him.
That gamble paid off. His reward was a five-year deal and he gets to be on a team that plans on contending. Strome is fourth in goals, and third in points on the Capitals this season and has been everything you could ask for in a depth centre.
The Outlook Of The Team
After the Dylan Strome contract extension, the outlook of this team is in good shape. Strength is down the middle with Nicklas Backstrom and Evgeny Kuznetsov. Pair that with stellar wingers in T.J. Oshie, Ovechkin, and Tom Wilson. The back end is built nicely and they have goaltending with Darcy Kuemper. Overall the extension further solidifies their contention status.
